Yes, Polk Street is closed right now. But it doesn't have to stay that way.
Roads all over EaDo are torn up—we know. Most of that construction wraps up in 6-12 months.
But Polk Street? The city plans to close it forever.
Multiple parts of Polk are torn up. In EaDo (next to 8th Wonder), it's being reconstructed and will reopen next year. But in Downtown (next to the GRB), it's currently only open to pedestrians & cyclists, and it will completely close, forever, for everybody later in 2026.
Why? To rush a ballroom for the 2028 Republican National Convention.
Yes—the City's goal is to "transform" the GRB and build a ballroom for the 2028 RNC. That will only last a week; in exchange, we give up our public street forever.
City Council votes one more time. We can still stop this.
Some of our elected officials don't seem to think people care about this. Or that it's not impacting very many people. We need to tell them they are wrong!
